Java Platform, Enterprise Edition or Java EE is a widely used platform for server programming in the Java programming language. The Java platform (Enterprise Edition) differs from the Java Standard Edition Platform (Java SE) in that it adds libraries which provide functionality to deploy fault-tolerant, distributed, multi-tier Java software, based largely on modular components running on an application server.

Following the success of the Java platform, the term application server sometimes refers to a J2EE or Java EE 5 application server.
An edition of the Java platform is the name for a bundle of related programs, or platform, from Sun which allow for developing and running programs written in the Java programming language.
The platform is not specific to any one processor or operating system, but rather an execution engine (called a virtual machine) and a compiler with a set of standard libraries that are implemented for various hardware and operating systems so that Java programs can run identically on all of them.
Apache TomCat is a server-based opensource support for JSP (Java Server Pages).
A Java Server Page (JSP) (a servlet from Java) executes in a web container — the Java equivalent of CGI scripts. JSPs provide a way to create HTML pages by embedding references to the server logic within the page. HTML coders and Java programmers can work side by side by referencing each other's code from within their own.
mas numpang nanya apa kata "java" itu berarti Jawa? katanya sih iya, apa bener? gmana sejarahnya kok bisa nama "java" dipake dalam istilah bahasa komputer?
BalasHapus@Aryo Halim : kalo tidak salah begini ceritanya...hehehe Nama JAVA dipakai oleh penemunya (www.sun.com) dari ketidaksengajaan saat mereka akan memberikan aplikasi yang sedang mereka kerjakan di suatu kedai kopi, mereka menyebut kopi dengan kata JAVA dan akhimya memberi nama aplikasi tersebut dengan JAVA, versi lain mengatakan JAVA adalah nama depan dari nama mereka.
BalasHapusTambahan, awalnya hampir menggunakan nama Oak, (diambil dari pohon oak yang tumbuh di depan jendela ruangan kerja “bapak java”), James Gosling. Nama Oak ini tidak dipakai untuk versi release Java karena sebuah perangkat lunak sudah terdaftar dengan merek dagang tersebut, sehingga diambil nama penggantinya menjadi “Java”. Nama ini diambil dari kopi murni yang digiling langsung dari biji (kopi tubruk) kesukaan Gosling. Jadi bukan Java=Jawa hehehe....begitu ceritanya.
Saya itu agak bingung dengan Java itu.. Ada yang disebut Java Everywhere; itu java yang ada di hp; mobil; pc; videogame;dll. Ada juga yang disebut Server ada lagi Servlet; adalagi yang gandengan dg Tomcat...?? Kalau dalam web ada istilah java client side.. apalagi nih...
